Lesson procedure
- The lesson starts on the taxiway centerline with the pushback maneuver complete, parking brake set, and engines running; the cockpit confirms the engine start.
- The cockpit is informed using about the start of the equipment disconnection process via standard communication phraseology.
- The trainee must lift the towbar slightly before disconnecting it from tractor's front coupling, and authorize the tractor driver to reverse.
- While the driver repositions the tractor, the trainee removes the towbar head safety pin, pulls the locking lever upward, and reinserts the safety pin to secure the open position.
- The pushback driver takes over and detaches the towbar from the nose gear, attaches it to the tractor's rear tow hitch, and drives to a safe position away from the aircraft.
- The trainee removes the steering bypass pin from the nose gear, before disconneting the headset and closing the access panel.
- Moving to the left side of the aircraft, the trainee faces the cockpit and holds the steering bypass pin up high, showing the aircraft's steering system is reactivated, until the pilot confirms.
- After confirmation, the final all-clear signal is given; the pilot acknowledges and the aircraft begins to taxi.
- The communication sequence is repeated in advanced mode where correct phraseology must be selected from multiple options.
