Training Type
Initial Training
IATA Standard
IATA AHM 1110, Edition 46 & IATA IGOM, Edition 15

Description

Prepares operators for safe and efficient conveyor belt handling before entering live ramp operations. This lesson simulates every key action involved in operating the belt loader's conveyor system.

Lesson Overview

  1. 1Overview of the conveyor control panel layout
  2. 2Forward belt movement and stopping procedures
  3. 3Reverse operation for unloading
  4. 4Speed control and adjustment using the rotary dial
  5. 5Safe procedure for directional changes
  6. 6Emergency stop usage and reactivation
  7. 7Free practice mode

Skills Acquired

  • Start, stop, and reverse the conveyor correctly
  • Adjust belt speed to match operational demand
  • Trigger the emergency stop and restore the system safely
  • Recognize and avoid common misuse patterns
  • Act safely around moving conveyor equipment

Lesson Procedure

  • Learners begin the session in front of the belt loader's rear-left control panel.
  • Through voice-guided instructions and visual cues, they learn each control's function and practice operating the conveyor system hands-on
    • Operate belt movement: activate forward and reverse motion, then stop the belt with correct timing.
    • Adjust belt speed: use the rotary dial to simulate workload changes and understand speed impacts on operation.
    • Simulate unsafe behavior: intentionally reverse direction while running to observe a safe failure reaction and receive corrective feedback.
    • Emergency handling: engage the red emergency stop, observe full system shutdown, and then unlock it by pulling and turning the switch back to neutral.
  • Free practice phase: learners repeat and refine operations independently before completing the lesson through an exit marker near the cabin.

Safety Scenarios & Learnings
